Romantic Tarrytown Proposal at the Sleepy Hollow Riverwalk | Hudson River Engagement Photography


When Chad decided to propose to Shruthy, he knew exactly where it needed to happen — the Sleepy Hollow Riverwalk Community Mural in Tarrytown, NY. This spot had become special to them after one of their early dates, and with its stunning views of the Hudson River, the Tappan Zee Bridge, and the charming Sleepy Hollow Lighthouse, it was the perfect backdrop for such an unforgettable moment.


But Chad also knew that Shruthy would definitely want to look her best for the proposal — and he didn’t want to make her suspicious. So, in a move of true genius, he planned four fun-filled weekend dates in a row just to throw her off! By the time proposal day arrived, Shruthy had no idea what was coming.


That morning, Chad told her they had brunch reservations nearby but that they were a little early, so they should take a walk by the water first. Meanwhile, I was secretly setting up with Chad’s family — arranging a beautiful blanket surrounded by candles and flowers right by the Hudson.


When the two of them came upon the setup, Shruthy immediately sensed something special. Chad pulled out a handwritten speech he had prepared and began reading it aloud, his voice full of emotion. Shruthy was already tearing up before he even got to the big moment. When he knelt down and opened the ring box, her reaction said it all — she gasped, smiling through tears, completely overwhelmed by the moment and how beautiful the ring was.

After she tearfully said yes, they hugged, laughed, and soaked it all in. Then came one of the sweetest surprises — Shruthy turned around to see both of their families running toward them, cheering and crying with joy. The emotion in that moment was incredible.


Once the happy tears settled, we spent time taking photos along the water, and honestly, I couldn’t stop smiling behind the camera. Chad and Shruthy clearly love to laugh together, and their joy is absolutely contagious. They were so much fun to photograph, and it was so clear that they’re truly made for each other.


As a Tarrytown proposal photographer, I have to say — the Sleepy Hollow Riverwalk is one of the most picturesque and underrated proposal locations in the Hudson Valley. Between the river views, the mural, and that golden light reflecting off the water, it’s the perfect spot for anyone looking to pop the question in a romantic, meaningful way. I’d love to photograph another proposal here soon — it’s just that magical.
