An October Proposal in the Shakespeare Garden

There is something especially romantic about Central Park in mid-October. The leaves start changing, the sunsets turn soft and golden, and somehow the city still holds onto just enough warmth to make evenings feel comfortable and alive. Chris and Cristina’s proposal in Shakespeare Garden captured that feeling perfectly.

When Chris first told me their story, I immediately understood why he wanted the proposal to happen in Central Park.

The two of them met in December 2021 and instantly connected. On their very first date, they stayed out so long they literally closed the bar down together. Their second date ended up being a five-hour FaceTime call because Cristina had COVID, and by their third date, they were walking through Central Park together in the snow. According to Chris, from that point on, it was happily ever after.

For the proposal itself, Chris planned a beautiful evening in the city that included dressing up and going out to a special dinner afterward. Cristina definitely knew something important might happen that night because they were both dressed incredibly well, but she still seemed genuinely surprised when the moment actually happened.

I waited in Shakespeare Garden, one of the most charming and underrated proposal locations in Central Park, for Chris and Cristina to arrive and I pretended to be casually taking photos of some flowers. Even though there were some people walking through the garden that evening, we were able to find a quieter corner near the sundial where the moment still felt intimate and personal.

As the sun started setting, the light became absolutely beautiful. Chris gave Cristina a heartfelt speech before getting down on one knee and proposing. The entire atmosphere felt calm and emotional, like the rest of the park had faded into the background for a few minutes. Cristina immediately lit up with excitement once she realized what was happening.

Post-Proposal Engagement Photos

One of my favorite parts about proposal photography is watching the shift that happens right afterward. There is always this moment where the nerves disappear and couples suddenly realize they are engaged. Everything becomes lighter, happier, and more relaxed.

After the proposal, we spent time wandering through Shakespeare Garden taking engagement photos together while the sky continued turning softer and more golden. The pathways, flowers, and tucked-away corners of the garden gave the entire session such a romantic New York feel. Because the weather was still relatively warm for October, we were able to take our time moving through the park without rushing.

As we photographed along the way, the three of us slowly made our way toward the East Side where they had dinner reservations planned for later that evening. I always love when proposal sessions naturally blend into the rest of a couple’s evening because it helps the experience feel even more meaningful and intentional.

Throughout the session, Chris and Cristina were incredibly sweet together. You could tell how comfortable they are with each other in the way they laughed, walked together, and settled naturally into every moment.

As an NYC proposal photographer, Central Park proposals never stop feeling magical to me, especially in locations like Shakespeare Garden that feel tucked away from the busyness of the city.

Chris and Cristina’s proposal felt romantic in such a timeless and understated way. It was not about a huge production or elaborate setup. It was simply about revisiting a place connected to the beginning of their relationship and starting the next chapter together there too.
