A Sunset Beach Proposal in Lido Beach | John & Megan


This summer, I had the sweetest privilege of photographing John and Megan’s proposal at Point Lookout in Lido Beach — and it could not have been more perfect.


John had told Megan they were heading out for a nice dinner with friends, but since they arrived a little early, he suggested stopping by the beach to watch the sunset. Megan had no idea what was about to happen! As the sun dipped lower and the sky turned golden, John got down on one knee and asked her to marry him.


Her reaction was pure joy — total, genuine shock followed by the biggest smile. You could just feel how excited and happy she was in that moment. These two are so naturally sweet and in love that I barely had to give them any direction at all. They laughed, hugged, kissed, and soaked up the most beautiful summer light while I captured every little moment.


And to make things even better — their outfits perfectly coordinated, completely by accident! Megan’s soft neutral tones and John’s classic beachy look paired so effortlessly with the golden sunset and ocean backdrop. It was one of those serendipitous details that made the photos feel so cohesive and dreamy.

After our beach photos, John led Megan to Reynolds & Vine, a nearby restaurant — where another surprise was waiting. Their families and friends were all there for an intimate engagement party! Everyone had gone above and beyond with the sweetest details: a cute photo backdrop, thoughtful gifts, and even a custom denim jacket embroidered with “Mrs. Sherlock.” There were beautiful crystal champagne glasses ready for them to toast to their new chapter, and so much love and excitement in the air.


If you’re planning a beach proposal, here’s my biggest tip: timing and lighting are everything. Sunset is truly magical — the soft golden light makes the whole moment glow. Choose a spot that’s meaningful but not too crowded, and have a simple plan to get your partner there naturally (like John suggesting a quick stop before dinner). And of course, coordinate with your photographer ahead of time so everything flows smoothly without giving away the surprise!


It was one of those days that just radiated warmth — from the sunset glow to the pure happiness on everyone’s faces. Congratulations, John and Megan! Your love story is just beginning, and I’m so honored I got to be part of this special moment.
