A Quintessential NYC Proposal


Some proposals feel especially New York from beginning to end, and Drogin and Lauren’s Central Park proposal was exactly that in the best possible way.


The two of them are college sweethearts who met while attending the University of San Diego and started dating during their senior year. After graduation, they both independently wanted to move to New York City and ended up building their life together here. When Drogin described their relationship to me before the proposal, one thing stood out immediately. Their life together is deeply tied to the city. Between trying amazing restaurants, drinking great wine, traveling together, and spending time with friends and family, New York has really become part of their story. So it made perfect sense that his proposal would feel incredibly NYC too.

Strolling into her own proposal


The plan for the day was very thoughtful. Lauren spent the earlier part of the afternoon having high tea at The Plaza with her friends, which gave her the perfect excuse to get dressed up while also putting her right near Central Park afterward without raising suspicion. From there, her friends casually walked with her into the park where Drogin was waiting in the southeast corner near Gapstow Bridge.


What Lauren did not know was that a huge group of their friends were all secretly watching from a large rock overlooking the proposal spot nearby. As if the timing could not have been more perfect already, there also happened to be someone playing violin music nearby right as Lauren approached. The entire atmosphere suddenly felt incredibly cinematic.


When Drogin got down on one knee, Lauren immediately looked shocked and emotional while their friends watched and cheered from above. It was one of those moments where everything aligned perfectly without feeling overly staged.

After she said yes, all of their friends rushed over celebrating and congratulating them while the park around them buzzed with excitement.

We spent a little time taking group photos together before I walked through the park with just the two of them for engagement portraits.


One thing I loved about this proposal session was how naturally it blended elegant moments with classic NYC energy. As we made our way toward the edge of the park for dinner reservations afterward, we stopped for photos with a pretzel from a street cart and even grabbed some fun images of them getting into a yellow taxi together. Those ended up being some of my favorite photos from the entire session because they captured the personality of the city and their relationship so perfectly.


Throughout the entire shoot, the two of them looked completely wrapped up in the excitement of the moment. They were laughing constantly, holding onto each other while walking through the park, and soaking in every second together.


As an NYC proposal photographer, I love when couples incorporate pieces of the city that genuinely feel meaningful to their relationship instead of focusing only on traditional proposal photos. Drogin and Lauren’s session felt romantic, joyful, stylish, and unmistakably New York in every possible way.
