A Scenic Alpine Lookout Proposal in the Palisades | Hudson Valley Engagement


Some proposals are beautiful, some are meaningful, and every once in a while, one is deeply personal in a way that’s hard to put into words. Sydnie and Jimmy’s proposal at Alpine Lookout in the Palisades was one of those moments for me.


Sydnie is my little sister’s childhood best friend, so I’ve known her for years and always thought of her as a second sister. I’ve watched her grow up, and I’ve had a front-row seat to her story with Jimmy. They met in middle school, and Sydnie had a crush on him for years while they were just friends. Life took them in different directions for a while, but after college (when they both ended up back home during COVID) they reconnected and started dating.


Getting to see that kind of full-circle love story is rare, and getting to photograph this moment was even more special.

When Jimmy reached out about the proposal, I was immediately all in (and also tasked with keeping a pretty major secret from my family, which was not easy). He had the idea to pull over at a scenic overlook in the Palisades, and together we chose Alpine Lookout for its incredible views of the Hudson River and the NYC skyline.


On a chilly day in mid-March, everything came together perfectly. The overlook was quiet, the light was soft, and the view stretched out endlessly behind them. Jimmy led Sydnie over to the edge, and within moments, he was down on one knee.

She was completely surprised, and the emotion of the moment felt layered with so much history: the years of friendship, the timing of their relationship, and everything that led them to this exact spot.


Afterwards, we spent time taking portraits overlooking the river, capturing both the landscape and the connection between them. Alpine Lookout is one of those places that naturally elevates a proposal. It feels expansive and cinematic, while still being easy to access.


This session meant so much to me—not just professionally, but personally. Being trusted to document such an important moment for someone who has been part of my life for so long is something I don’t take lightly.
