Exploring Tribeca Together on a Perfect NYC Day

Kelsey and Jacob’s engagement session felt like spending an afternoon following two best friends around New York City while they made each other laugh nonstop.

The two of them have been together for more than seven years and built so much of their relationship around exploring the city together. Between trying new restaurants, wandering through neighborhoods, working out together, traveling, and merging friend groups, their relationship feels deeply rooted in shared experiences and genuine friendship.

They are also getting married this October on Long Island, and I am already so excited to photograph their wedding after spending this afternoon with them. We planned the session around Tribeca on a gorgeous sunny day, which ended up fitting their energy perfectly.

Including Locations That Mattered to Their Relationship

One of my favorite things about this engagement session was how many meaningful details and locations were woven into it.

Kelsey shared so many small pieces of their story beforehand, from becoming Mets fans together to dog-watching in Madison Square Park pretending they owned one themselves. They also mentioned several restaurants and bars connected to their relationship, including Terra Wine Bar in Tribeca, which was the location of their very first date. Incorporating places that already matter to couples always makes engagement photos feel more personal and emotionally connected.

We spent part of the session walking around different streets throughout Tribeca taking candid photos while they talked, laughed, and wandered together naturally. The neighborhood itself created such a perfect backdrop with all of the cobblestone streets, soft sunlight, and classic downtown Manhattan atmosphere. We also stopped by the pier for photos overlooking the water, which added another layer of variety and movement to the gallery.

A Session That Felt Like Them

One thing that stood out throughout the entire session was how comfortable and playful Kelsey and Jacob are together. A lot of the afternoon felt less like a photoshoot and more like documenting a really fun date night between two people who genuinely love spending time together. That is always my goal during engagement sessions.

I never want couples to feel overly posed or disconnected from each other. Instead, I guide people naturally while leaving space for movement, conversation, and real interaction so the photos still feel authentic. Kelsey and Jacob made that incredibly easy. They spent most of the session making each other laugh, walking arm in arm through the neighborhood, and settling naturally into little moments together.

We eventually finished the session at one of the spots they love going to together, which tied the entire gallery back into their actual relationship and life in the city.

Their session felt warm, personal, playful, and very distinctly New York from start to finish. Engagement sessions work best when they reflect the couple themselves rather than trying to fit into a generic idea of what engagement photos “should” look like.
