A Heartfelt Central Park Proposal at the San Remo Lookout

Lucas and Emily’s love story began in college, though it took a little while for them to truly meet. They had plenty of mutual friends but didn’t actually connect until January 2018. A month later, they began casually seeing each other, and by March they were officially dating. Seven and a half years later, their relationship has been filled with adventures, shared milestones, and a surprising number of parallel paths.

Since those early days, Lucas and Emily have moved through life together—literally. After college, they both relocated to Washington, D.C., worked at the same job, applied to law school at the same time, and were accepted to the same program. They even graduated law school side by side. Now, their careers are taking them on new adventures—Emily is set to move to San Francisco for a year, then to Montana to clerk for federal judges. It will be their first time living apart, but given their shared love of skiing and snowboarding, Lucas may just follow her to Montana before they settle down in one of their dream cities—whether that’s D.C., the Bay Area, New York, or Miami.

Lucas knew he wanted their proposal to be as thoughtful and personal as their journey together. He planned the perfect moment in one of New York City’s most iconic and romantic locations: the San Remo lookout in Central Park. To keep the surprise intact, Emily’s college friends invited her to a “picnic in the park” under the pretense that they needed some photos for a music project. After meeting up with a couple of friends, they led her toward the path where Lucas was waiting.

When Emily reached him, Lucas guided her to the quiet San Remo lookout spot they had chosen ahead of time. With the beautiful city skyline peeking through the trees and the soft shimmer of the lake in the background, Lucas dropped to one knee and asked Emily to marry him.

The moment was pure joy—filled with laughter, happy tears, and the kind of quiet, intimate excitement that makes a proposal so special. Afterward, they took a stroll through the park, capturing portraits among the lush greenery and classic Central Park scenery, before heading to Emily’s family’s Upper East Side apartment for a celebration with both families. From the heartfelt planning to the perfect location, Lucas and Emily’s engagement was a beautiful reflection of their love story—full of meaning, shared history, and excitement for the adventures ahead.

About the San Remo Lookout in Central Park

Tucked along the western edge of Central Park’s Lake, the San Remo lookout offers one of the most romantic proposal backdrops in the city. Named after the iconic twin-towered San Remo apartment building that rises dramatically above the trees, this spot combines city architecture with the park’s serene natural beauty.

The lookout features a quiet pathway lined with greenery, gentle views of the water, and a perfect angle for that classic “NYC skyline meets nature” moment in your photos. It’s a short walk from both Bow Bridge and Bethesda Terrace, making it easy to capture a variety of iconic Central Park shots in one session. For couples who want a proposal location that feels private yet still quintessentially New York, the San Remo lookout is an unbeatable choice.
