An UWS Proposal in Central Park


When you live in New York City, choosing where to propose can feel overwhelming. There are so many incredible options! Joe found a way to make his choice of proposal spot feel both meaningful and effortlessly beautiful.


After meeting on Bumble and dating for a few years, Joe knew he wanted to propose somewhere that reflected both their relationship and their everyday life together. Since they live together on the Upper West Side, Central Park was the obvious choice, but finding the right spot within the park made all the difference.


He chose the north side of the Great Lawn with the vast lawn and city skyline in the background. This area is one of my favorite proposal locations in Central Park because it strikes such a good balance. You get open green space, a view of the skyline, and a slightly quieter feel compared to more tourist-heavy areas, while still feeling undeniably “New York” even for locals. (This is also a spot I have frequented during my own time living on the UWS, which makes it even more fun for me!)


On a cool mid-March day, Joe led Hannah into Central Park like it was any other walk. Nothing felt staged or out of place, which helped keep the surprise completely intact. When they reached the perfect spot, he paused, turned to her, and got down on one knee. Hannah’s reaction was immediate and full of joy, and you could see how excited she was!


After the proposal, we spent time capturing portraits in the park, taking advantage of the open space and soft early spring light. The Great Lawn area gives you that iconic Central Park feel without needing to move too far, which keeps the experience relaxed and natural.


One of my favorite parts of this session was what came next. Instead of staying entirely within the park, we walked back out into the Upper West Side and took photos on their neighborhood streets. This added such a personal layer to the session, combining the beauty of Central Park with the everyday places that are part of their life together.

That mix of park and city is something I always recommend when possible. It tells a more complete story and makes the photos feel even more meaningful over time.
