Jane's Bridal Shower at Moderne Barn

Jane's bridal shower took place on June 26th at Moderne Barn in Armonk, hosted by her mom Risa and her aunt, and it turned into one of those full circle days that make this job feel personal. I'd photographed Luke and Jane's proposal in Central Park last year, so getting to see her again, this time getting ready to become a bride, was a genuine treat.


The Details

Jane's aunt handled the florals herself, and the arrangements throughout the room were beautiful. The custom cupcakes carried photos of Jane and Luke printed right on top, a small detail that guests kept commenting on. Moderne Barn's family style menu kept the afternoon relaxed rather than formal, plates passed around the table the way a good celebration should feel.


Jane had her hair and makeup done professionally for the day, her signature curls styled into an updo that suited the whole afternoon.

A Surprise from Luke

While the shower was underway, Luke was downstairs with the men, dads, husbands, cousins, having their own lunch. He came upstairs partway through with flowers for Jane, a quiet, sweet interruption to the afternoon that caught her off guard in the best way.


The Speeches and the Shoe Game

Risa and Jane's aunt both gave speeches, and both got emotional in the best way. Risa actually started hers before Jane had made it back into the room, which got a good laugh once Jane caught up and realized what she'd missed.


The group played the shoe game, sitting back to back holding one of each partner's shoes, answering questions like who cooks better and raising the shoe of whoever they thought fit. Watching a room full of people agree and disagree in real time is always more entertaining than it sounds on paper.

By the time the afternoon wound down, Jane had celebrated with the two families and many friends who'll be joining together at her wedding. They'd eaten well, laughed through a game that revealed more than either of them expected, and been reminded, twice over, how loved she is by the people around her. It's the kind of day that doesn't need a grand production to matter. It just needs the right people in the room.
